What’s so fascinating about watching motor vehicles race each other? It’s just watching people drive, but is that really all there is to it?

Any sport can be called pointless if you don’t really try to understand it. Motor racing is watching people drive, yes, but golf is watching a guy stand in silence before he hits a small ball with a stick to get it in a hole. Break any sport down and you’ll get a description like that. Motor racing has more to it, like all sports, and you really can’t understand unless you get into the details.

There’s an adrenaline rush in the speed on the track. The sounds of the engine alone can be enough to get your blood pumping. The competition between the drivers, knowing that even the slightest mistake can ruin their entire season, the awe you have at each crash, wondering if the driver’s okay and, if the driver is okay, how this will affect the standings, you can immerse yourself in the world of racing just as with any sport. Plus, it’s hard to deny that the sound of a car going 200mph racing by isn’t cool every time you hear it.You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Lewis Hamilton’s dad Anthony on the F1 star – and his other racing driver son

For high speeds, a great deal of action in every turn, and for non stop fun and action on the track, watching motor car racing is a great way to enjoy sports, and have a day full of twists and turns. Whether you are actually going to the track to watch a race live in person, or you are watching at the bar with a group of friends, motor car racing is one of the most lively and action packed sports for you to enjoy with a group of friends (or even alone). It will be guaranteed that you will not be bored, for one minute of the race.

Whether you watch for the high speeds, the dangerous curves, or for the accidents that take place on the track, there is always something interesting and new going on during a motor car race. From amateurs to the professionals, the sport is action packed, and doesn’t disappoint on the thrills and spills on the track. So, if you are looking for a sport that is fast, non stop action, and full of non stop movement from start to finish, watching motor car racing is the sport to get into and start watching.

Many people get an absolute thrill out of dirt track racing. They argue that these drivers have a lot more skill than their asphalt peers, for a few reasons. The first reason is that they are racing at high speeds, but they also have to slide their car through the turns. On pavement, the cars are just a little bit faster; however, they turn a corner like an ordinary car would. Dirt tracks are also a lot smaller, which means that drivers have to be more precise in their actions. When racing on asphalt, drivers can pass relatively easily on straight aways.

Dirt track racing will never replace the asphalt races for a few reasons. The first issue is that everyone is still going to have a passion for professional associations, who all race on asphalt. Dirt is more of an attraction for racing fans who like seeing races every week, and they are more affordable. Dirt track racing is the breeding ground for many professional racers, in other words it would be the minor league of racing. Dirt track racing also features a lot of camaraderie, as the drivers are usually from the area and many fans and drivers are friends or family.

It’s summer and you’re likely heading all over the Southeast attending race after race in the Sprint Cup series but if you can’t this year, here are a few of our picks for the best NASCAR movies of all time. If you’ve got direct, you can catch many of these on loop this time of year…
Taladega Nights – The obvious frontrunner, the Will Ferrell classic has stood the test of time for the last few years and is likely to continue. It’s a riot and is almost what we would consider to be family friendly.
Cars – Who doesn’t love a good Pixar film? Cars is surprisingly well written and entertaining even for the most discriminating fan. This one truly is one you can watch with the kids…
Days of Thunder – The movie set where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman met? It’s a love story wrapped in a NASCAR story but we’ll take it. It’s hot and heavy and has some great race scenes.
Greased Lightning – Richard Pryor stars in a film about the first black NASCAR driver and does an excellent job at that. Historical and moving, a must see.

So you’re an avid motor racing fan. You want the best bang for the buck. So here it is. I will give you five tips to locate cheap motor racing tickets to make your life fun.

Tip 1. There are many ticket vendors that are online. Go ahead and search for them and you’ll see what I mean.

Tip 2. Call the speedway venue directly. Of course this the most obvious one where they may have extra tickets that need to be sold on the cheap.

Tip 3. Offline ticket scalpers. You can select from the newspaper where people buy and sell tickets. Sometimes you can find some cheap tickets this way.

Tip 4. Get on a presale ticket notice plan. Sometimes there are fan clubs associated with speedways or racers themselves. In order to promote an event they may have available discounted tickets to a speedway event.

Tip 5. Enter contests. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for special contests that give away those coveted motor racing tickets. If the race is big enough then there will be contests to look out for.

These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes for ideas to locate tickets.

No matter what kind of motorsports you are into tickets for the events can be the hardest thing to find. So how can you get the tickets you want for the sports you are interested in? The avenues and vendors you can go through now are limitless.

You can go through the internet but your options here are plenty. You have three types of online sites to look at when it comes to tickets. You have auction sites, ticket resellers, and classifieds. All of these are ways to find the tickets you want but which one of these is the most reliable and affordable.

Online auction sites offer you a chance to bid on the tickets you want. The biggest drawback is depending on where you live these tickets may show up late. Just be mindful of where you live in relation to where the tickets will be sent.

There are a variety of new ticket sites that allow people to sell their tickets directly to purchasers. These are great to find hard to get tickets but these sites can b expensive. You might be better off in this case going to online classifieds where people are just looking to move their tickets easily.

There are all sorts of new places to get tickets for motor racing events. Just shop around and you will be able to get what you need for the price that is desirable for you. Be sure to remember to never give up.

Are you a motor racing fan who loves collecting memorabilia? Five great sites to check out for deals are EBAY, motor racing league websites (such as NASCAR and IRL), race track souvenir shops, racing related auctions and card and collector shops. EBAY often has a large selection of vintage related memorabilia that is extremely rare. EBAY does carry a lot of new memorabilia, but it is priced fairly close to what you would pay to buy something directly from the league. Motor racing league sites are probably the safest place to buy memorabilia, as they certify everything is authentic, so you know they are not selling something that is not licensed. A lot of the league sites also have point systems, similar to credit cards where you can eventually trade in for “free” memorabilia. If you live near a race track, go check out their souvenir shops, as they often have a fair selection of memorabilia and you can take it home that day, opposed to waiting at least a day for shipping. Racing related auctions also have all sorts of memorabilia, as they are trading collectors items for parts on their race cars. Finally, check out card and collector shops, they will often carry vintage memorabilia and will generally negotiate a fair price with you.

You can bet Kinser knows how to school the “young ‘uns” on the track. He currently drives the 11 Quaker State car and has been named by ESPN as one of their all-time top drivers. He is pure excitement to watch. Now on to some new blood with Jason Feger — also known as the “highside hustler.” I saw Feger drive in Charlotte in 2009 and I can tell you this guy definitely earns his moniker. Mild mannered otherwise, he is energized once behind the wheel. Don’t let his Clark Kent-like appearance fool you if there’s a hole to be found, this guy not only takes it he owns it.You can bet there’s some talent in the WoO racing world, and I’ll be commenting on a lot more in future posts (especially after they hit Charlotte for the World Finals in November) so stay tuned. In the meantime, let the fun continue!

Here’s some more “lingo” to better understand NASCAR so you can not only enjoy racing to its fullest, but “talk the talk” around the water cooler the morning after a race!

MARBLES Bits of rubber that have been shaved off tires and dirt and gravel blown to the outside of a corner by the wind created by passing vehicles.

PIT ROAD The area where pit crews service the cars. Generally located along the front straightaway, but because of space limitations, some racetracks sport pit roads on the front and back straightaways.

PIT STALL The area along pit road that is designated for a particular team’s use during pit stops. Each car stops in the team’s stall before being serviced.

POLE POSITION Slang term for the foremost position on the starting grid, awarded to the fastest qualifier.

ROUND Slang term for a way of making chassis adjustments utilizing the race car’s springs. A wrench is inserted in a jack bolt attached to the springs, and is used to tighten or loosen the amount of play in the spring. This in turn can loosen or tighten the handling of a race car.

SHORT TRACK Racetracks that are less than one mile in length.

SILLY SEASON Slang for the period that begins during the latter part of the current (present) season.

SUPERSPEEDWAY A racetrack of one mile or more in distance. Road courses are included. Racers refer to three types of oval tracks. Short tracks are under one mile, intermediate tracks are at least a mile but under two miles and superspeedways are two miles and longer.

TRI-OVAL A racetrack that has a “hump” or “fifth turn” in addition to the standard four corners. Not to be confused with a triangle-shaped speedway which has three distinct corners.
